Ray Daly - Bass and Vocals
Around the Twin Cities area, i'm know as Sugar Ray for my sweet bass lines and groovy rhythm. I've played the piano for 12 years and actually didn't pick up the bass until a few summers ago. My first legit show was at the end of a Macphail music program where we played at 7th Street Entry/ First Avenue. I love The Strokes, Cake, Led Zeppelin, Ray Charles, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sublime, Stevie Wonder, The Expendables, Chance the Rapper, and anyone funky. I spend my free time adventuring with my hoodrat friends.
Jack Ohmes - Guitar and Vocals
Hey! My name is Jack Ohmes. In addition to the guitar and vocals I contribute to Painting Stars, I also play bass, cello, and ukulele. I first picked up the guitar when I was in 5th grade. I joined School of Rock the following year and went there for lessons and to play shows for the next 5 years! I met our drummer Simon Thomas and our other guitarist Jason Peterson at the School of Rock. The first concert I ever played was a School of Rock Jimi Hendrix tribute show. I was 12 years old, and I had never been more nervous in my life. I am greatly influenced by Yellowcard, Sum 41, John Mayer, Paramore, Arctic Monkeys, Rage Against the Machine, and Sublime. As of now, I am listening to anything pop punk and metal, like Yellowcard and A Day to Remember, but I really listen to anything and everything (except country- sorry Sarah). Music occupies most of my time, but I also love longboarding and hanging out with my friends- doing everything from eating pizza to throwing dead birds at each other.
Jason Peterson - Guitar and Vocals
Hey I’m Jason, and I play guitar and do background vocals for Painting Stars. I also can play drums, bass, and piano. I Started “playing” guitar when i was eight or nine years of age, and started taking lessons shortly after that. The first show I ever played was a Jimi Hendrix tribute show through School of Rock. Some of my musical influences include; Jimi Hendrix, John Mayer, Iron Maiden, Sublime, and Snoop Dogg. When I’m not playing music I enjoy skateboarding and sleeping.
Simon Thomas - Drums and Vocals
I'm Simon and there's nothing I like more than a good grilled cheese sandwich. Unless of course it's to play drums, which I love more than breathing. I started drumming when I was five but didn't start lessons until I was eight. I spent several years at School of Rock, where I met Jack and Jason. My favorite kind of music to play is pop punk, funk metal and ska. I love to listen to most everything, especially French Canadian Country. My influences are Blink-182, Yellowcard, System of a Down and Ariana Grande. If I could participate in a drum-off against anyone it would be Travis Barker. I also play guitar, bass, keyboards and sing. When you meet me, please address me by my professional name: Caillou.
Sarah Underwood - Lead Vocals
I've been a singer for as long as I can possibly remember. Though I've tried a few others, my strongest instrument is definitely my voice. I was trained in classical piano for eight years as a child, then taught myself some basic guitar upon graduating into high school. Having grown up with music all around me, I had always believed singing to be natural and commonplace, and so I sang loud and proud without a second thought. It wasn't until later that I found out that most families do not actually shamelessly belt out Taylor Swift or Dixie Chicks songs in perfect harmony as they dry the post-dinner dishes (which my three sisters and I nearly always do). Nevertheless, I kept up my training through lower and middle school choir. However, it wasn't until my sophomore year in high school that I realized that I could be serious about music. I began singing at my school's talent shows, strumming out original songs on my acoustic guitar, and was shocked by the positive reactions that my songs generated. While my time with Painting Stars has definitely introduced me to all kinds of new music, my radio remains tuned in to the Twin Cities country music stations. My music inspirations are Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, and Ariana Grande, and my most listened to Pandora stations are, again, T Swift, Hunter Hayes, Ben Rector, Keith Urban, and Andrea Bocelli. When I'm not with the band guys, I'm usually playing soccer with my teams, curled up in a blanket watching Netflix, writing a novel or getting "cray with my G's".
